Guide for

Printing Materials

Step 1 - Define your Goal

Defining your goal is not always an easy task, even more if you have never done this before.

As most print products are considered marketing material, asking for a professional marketer for advice may be a good idea.

But no worry, if you don’t have a marketing adviser to rely on, we are here to help!

The first thing you need to consider is the problem you are trying to solve with your print material. Are you looking to advertise a promotion, have your brand more recognisable in the community, or maybe just have a catalogue with products so you can have all information about what you do on a handy document?

Depending on what you are trying to achieve, some materials will perform better than others. There’s no recipe, every business operates in a different way and deal with a different kind of customers and have a differing target market, so only you will know what will work best for your business.

To help you out, we’ve put together below the most common marketing goals for print materials.

And of course, if you are still in doubt on your marketing goals, our team is happy to have a chat and discuss options suitable for your needs.

Most Common Marketing Goals

Brand Awareness

This marketing goal is all about ‘Spreading the Word’. It’s about being recognisable as a brand.

The ideal print materials must be easy to distribute, and ideally cost effective, considering this marketing goal is unlikely to bring immediate sales results – this goal aims for the long run.

Suggested print materials

Direct Sales

This marketing goal is about driving sales, either through a special offer, or by driving foot-traffic to a business.

The ideal print material may vary. Distribution and/or placement should be analysed to make the best decision. Usually the material should not be the cheapest option, but the most cost-effective.

Upsell a Product

This marketing goal is all about highlighting one single product, or category of products.

The ideal print material should be cost-effective but also able to reflect the product quality. Eg: if promoting a high-end product, using a cheaper material will make people think the product must not have the high-end quality you are promoting.

Showcase your Products

This marketing goal is ideal if you need a handy document to show your potential customers everything you do.

The ideal print may vary depending on your needs, but the most important thing to consider is how you want your customer to perceive your business. Either high-end, or cost effective but efficient, your material should communicate that idea.
